I suppose that this life position of Russian ladies established itself during the soviet period. It was almost impossible for Russian ladies to achieve something serious. It has always been much easier for a man to make a career. The government practices natalism and so they provided Russian ladies with long maternity leaves (there are no such maternity leaves anywhere else in the world)
For western women the position of a housewife is similar to the position of a janitor. She can be happy only if she has reached something in her life, only on condition that she has made a career. You see, it is considered very prestigious as the position in the society determines the income.
As for Russian ladies, they do not get high salaries even if they have managed to reach something. Russian ladies do not get rather high salaries that guarantee freedom and financial independence. You know, no matter how successful your career is with Russian salaries you are not able to afford a country house, a car, first-rate traveling, etc. and of course you won't get the most important thing that money could provide you with - the possibility not to care for money.
And even the career success doesn't guarantee stability. Remember the bank staff... Everyone has always envied them... And what happened to them after them after the default of 1998?
Ever since it has been very difficult for Russian ladies to make a successful career that is why they decided to dedicate themselves to family life. It is absolutely natural for everyone to seek happiness, isn't it? Where else can a woman find happiness if not in her own family? As a rule family life should give much more satisfaction than making a career. Also it should give much less troubles and disappointment. But unfortunately here, in Russia, everything is turned upside down.
